APPBUSA is an accredited faculty union representing the faculty and librarians of l’Université Sainte-Anne.

As of June 2, 2021, APPBUSA requested that collective bargaining begin with a view to renewing the current collective agreement which was originally due to expire on June 30, 2020 but was extended for one year until June 30, 2021.

The negotiating demands of our negotiators are based on an extensive series of consultations with the different sectors of our membership. They aim at greater clarity, transparency and equity in the internal functioning of the university.

Faced with what can be termed a lack of receptivity on the part of the employer to the proposals of our negotiating team, APPBUSA applied to the Nova Scotia Labour Board for the aid of a conciliator in November 2021. Conciliation began in mid- to late January 2022.  Some progress was made on the demands submitted by the administration but the majority of the proposals of APPBUSA were not responded to with serious counter-proposals, if they were responded to at all. An end to conciliation was requested on February 10, 2022.

In the meantime, 90% of the members of APPBUSA, in a 24-hour secret ballot which terminated at noon on February 10, gave the Executive Committee of APPBUSA the mandate to begin a strike « if necessary » in order to emphasize the importance which members give to the serious consideration of their demands. The ideal would be for our carefully formulated proposals to be simply accepted. At a minimum we hope for serious counterproposals. The filing of the conciliator’s report does not mean that negotiations have come to an end.
